This coming Saturday, April 25th at 3pm, there will be a gathering to celebrate the life of Eleanor Hadley at Barclay Manor in Vancouver’s West End.
Eleanor lived in the West End since 1960 and attended nearly every Park Board meeting for almost 50 years, while offering public input at many of those meetings. She ran for Park Commissioner in last November’s civic election but was hospitalized and passed away in her 94th year on March 7, 2015.
Despite being a polarizing figure on many issues, Eleanor was a champion for Vancouver’s parks and beaches and her main goal in life was saving this city’s natural spaces from commercialization. Whether you agreed with her or not on some issues, we can all learn from her example.
Eleanor also appeared in Dan Pierce’s documentary The Hollow Tree, which documented Eleanor’s passion as an advocate and protector of Vancouver’s world famous Stanley Park. After having interviewed Eleanor a number of times, Dan has created a new short film to share on Saturday of Eleanor speaking about her life.
