Close to Home works to build connections and address isolation and loneliness in multi-unit residential buildings by offering onsite social, recreational and educational programs.
With support from resident volunteers and West End Seniors’ Network staff, building residents organize activities and encourage older adults to step out of their units and into the common area to talk, eat, learn and share with their neighbours of all ages. You and your neighbours get to shape what activities take place in the common room, amenity room or lobby of your building.
By offering programs right where older adults live, Close to Home can also help overcome transportation and mobility challenges. Residents are more likely to engage because they don’t need to leave the building, and neighbours can become a source of support.
Your Building Can Join Close to Home
Are there many older adults living in your building? Would you like to get to better know your neighbours? Do you want to help build a sense of community right where you live?
Close to Home can be offered in rental buildings, condominium / strata buildings, and co-op buildings. Speak to your landlord, property manager, or co-op board about bringing Close to Home to your building.
