Are you an older person living in a West End apartment building? Would you like more activities or fun with neighbours, right where you live? Close to Home works to build connections and address isolation and loneliness in multi-unit residential buildings by offering onsite social, recreational and educational programs.
How it Works
Do you have an idea? Close to Home supports community-building with grants and how-to’s. We can help make it happen. Staff at the West End Seniors’ Network will help at every step of the way, supporting you in bringing friendly life to common rooms, hallways, lobbies, or gardens.
You could play a vital role in your building. Even one event is a chance for people around you to connect. You can help counter isolation and loneliness while doing something fun.
Activity Examples
January – April: What bird is that?
Winter is a great time to spot birds. Team up with a neighbour and submit your counts for conservation, at https://feederwatch.org/.
January 25: Robbie Burns Day
Gather the neighbours, book the common room, sing songs, and recite your favourite poems.
