Stories of Success

The West End Seniors’ Network is proud to present Older Adult Stories of Success: Overcoming Adversity in the Vancouver West End. This is a video series of older adults who have come forward to share their stories of overcoming challenges in their lives. These seniors all have a story to tell. Despite the adversity that they have faced, they have all come through stronger and learned a great deal from their experiences.

This video series features stories on overcoming the following adversities:

  • Aging and physical changes
  • Alcohol addiction and recovery
  • Cancer
  • Caregiving and loss
  • Chronic pain
  • Complications of surgery
  • Double lung transplant
  • Hip replacement
  • Housing
  • Immigration and resettlement
  • Isolation and loss of a partner
  • LGBTQ2S identity and acceptance
  • Mental health
  • Poverty and shame
  • Recreating your life
  • Retirement and loss of identity
  • Victim of an attack

We would like to thank all of our participants for coming forward and sharing their inspiring experiences with us. We know that it’s not always easy to share deeply personal stories. However, we hope that by telling your stories, you inspire others to come forward with their own, or realize that the hardships they face in life can also be overcome with some support and guidance.

We would also like to thank the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and the First Baptist Foundation for their financial support.
