Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!

Volunteers play a critical role at the West End Seniors’ Network.  Almost all of our programs, events, and services are delivered directly by volunteers, and we offer a wide range of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. Over 260 volunteers contributed over 21,200 hours of their time to the West End Seniors’ Network last year, and we want you to join our team!

Before you commit, take a careful look at the program details on this website to make sure they match what West End Seniors’ Network (WESN) offers and fit with your schedule. Most WESN programs happen on weekdays during regular working hours, with only a few opportunities in the evenings or on weekends.

WESN appreciates independent and self-directed volunteers. We use a volunteer management software called “Better Impact” for scheduling shifts. It’s important for all volunteers to get familiar with this software and handle their own schedules.

If you decide to become a WESN volunteer, just click the “Become a Volunteer” button and follow the instructions to register online. When you register, you’ll create your volunteer profile on the Better Impact Software platform. Remember your username and password, as you’ll need them to access the software later on.

Once you’re registered, the Manager of Volunteers will provide you with an access code for the online portal to apply for a criminal record check specifically for WESN.

All volunteers must apply for a criminal record check tailored to WESN or use the online portal to “share” an existing check. There’s no cost to volunteers for this check, but it needs to be renewed every five years from the issue date.

The onboarding process usually takes about four weeks to complete, mostly because of the time needed for your criminal record check to clear.

If you’re not comfortable with technology or have trouble using it, don’t worry. We have options to help you learn. Feel free to contact the Manager of Volunteers at miriam@wesn.ca for assistance.
