I’m a retired educator, still coaching English to newcomers, and a world traveler. Volunteering has taught me new skills, to be a team player, to give purposefully while having fun, and making new friends. Memorable volunteering stints include • YWCA: Single mothers’ support group • Shuswap Hospice Society: supporting youth through grief and loss. • Community Alternative Measures Panel: (Salmon Arm Probation) using restorative justice with young first offenders and their victims, bypassing the traditional justice system. • Conversation Club for Farsi-speaking adults from Iran I’ve volunteered at Clothes and Collectibles (C&C), for 12 years.
Affectionately called The Sitcom by my daughter (pictured), Clothes & Collectibles has a very diverse customer group, who appreciate how We welcome everyone, acknowledge regulars by name, and offer unbeatable bargains. Volunteering at C&C during Covid was my weekly lifesaving tonic.
