My Name is Margaret and I’m a volunteer for the West End Seniors’ Network at Kay’s Place. In September of 2015, my dear husband of 52 years passed away. It was a very difficult time for me so later the next year, I went to Kay’s Place for an appointment to find out what resources and supports were available to me.
The Kay’s Place Manager I spoke with was professional, extremely helpful, and understood the loss that I was going through. He made several suggestions such as where to make a new will, how to apply for SAFER, and directed me to other resources. After several appointments, I inquired if I would be able to become a Kay’s Place volunteer. I started as a Kay’s Place volunteer in January 2017 and have been volunteering there ever since. I have found that volunteering is a rewarding experience for me.
Even several years later, I look forward to every shift. After a couple of years of volunteering at Kay’s Place, I was asked to train new volunteers, which is a pleasure for me to do. Everyone at Kay’s Place is supportive and I thank all of them for our friendships. I have had many memorable times, and even when things are trying, I want to continue to volunteer as long as I am able!
