Position: Senior Peer Support Coordinator
About The West End Seniors’ Network (WESN)
WESN is a registered not-for-profit organization with over 850 members, an annual revenue budget of $1m and 15 full / part time staff. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of older adults in Vancouver’s West End by providing social, recreational, educational, and supportive programs and services that foster connection and inclusion in the broader community.
The Senior Peer Support Program at WESN aims to provide valuable support to individuals facing challenges by leveraging peer connections and shared experiences. The Peer Support Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day delivery of the program, managing the Peer Support Volunteers, and ensuring the program’s objectives align with the grant guidelines. The Peer Support Coordinator reports to the Manager of Community Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
o Oversee the day-to-day delivery of the Senior Peer Support program o Create a detailed program outline, including goals, timelines, and key milestones o Perform client intake and screening for the Senior Peer Support Program
o Collaborate with other senior serving organizations offering similar programs Data Collection and Reporting
o Establish a system for collecting and analyzing relevant program data o Track service, client, and volunteer information and statistics, and maintain appropriate records for funders and WESN
o Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements
o Supervise, support, train, and schedule volunteers as required
o Match clients with peer volunteers
o Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize volunteers with program expectations and guidelines
o Arrange and lead monthly Peer Support Volunteer meeting
o Provide ongoing support, supervision, resources and guidance to volunteers o Conduct regular evaluations and feedback sessions with volunteers to assess their experiences and address concerns
o Maintain a high level of confidentiality in client matters
o Complete mandatory learning and professional development requirements General Support
o Support other WESN program and service activities and events as required o Knowledgeable of the services provided by Kay’s Place and Barclay Manor, able to provide information and referrals to members and participants
● Post-secondary education in the area of Gerontology, social work, or other related field ● Minimum of 4 years experience working with older adults with a range of physical and cognitive abilities
● Experience in the community-based not-for-profit sector is an asset
● Experience working with volunteers is an asset
● Ability to speak an additional language is an asset
Reports To: Manager of Community Services
Starting Salary: $24/hour
Hours: 12 hours per week
Location: Kay’s Place in Denman Place Mall
