Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency – Call for Board of Directors

House with dollar sign.bmpThe City is looking for volunteers from the general public to serve on the Vancouve Affordable Housing Agency (VAHA).

The Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency (VAHA) is a City-controlled, but legally separate, entity created to implement the recommendations from the Mayor’s Task Force on Housing Affordability.

The Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency’s goals are to:

  • Ensure resources and projects align with Council goals and objectives
  • Deliver housing as quickly, efficiently, and affordably as possible through standardized processes, economies of scale, and clear decision making
  • Identify where the greatest impact can be made, and act as a catalyst for innovative housing ideas and models
  • Evaluate outcomes and share learnings with the City and senior levels of government, driving standardization and streamlining of processes across multiple delivery platforms

The city is looking for  experienced and expert community board members who bring a strong understanding of the affordable housing needs across Vancouver. Find details at  VAHA-Public-Call for Directors Aug 2014 The deadline for applications is Monday, September 22nd.

Death Picnic – Monday August 25th, 5:30-8:30pm, Prospect Point

End of lifeThe taboo subject of death will be served up in Stanley Park for the first time by organizers Waddell and Marylene Kyriazis who created The Centre for Death Education earlier this year. Participants are encouraged to bring their own food to the Prospect Point picnic site in Stanley Park Aug. 25 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Similar to the tradition of storytelling around the campfire, the free event will have guests sharing stories about different aspects of death. – See more at: http://www.vancourier.com/news/death-on-stanley-park-picnic-menu-

Registration and Lunch: 12:30 pm. Business portion of meeting begins at 1:15 pm sharp.

LOCATION:    West End Community Centre (870 Denman Street)

WESN Members and supporters are invited to attend our 2014 Annual General Meeting on September 12th, 2014. Members are asked to bring their current WESN Membership Cards with them as this will expedite the registration process.

Now in its sixth year, I Love Transit is a week  to celebrate public transit!
