The mandate of Life Unlimited is to help homebound older adults living in the West End stay connected to their community. The West End Seniors’ Network provides four services through Life Unlimited: Friendly Visiting, Check-In Calls and Emails, Accompaniment to Medical Appointments, and Grocery Shopping.
Visitors provide companionship for socially isolated seniors and those living with age-related disabilities in Vancouver’s West End. Visit with an isolated senior in their home or take them for a walk to provide companionship and a meaningful social opportunity.
Check-In Calls and Emails
Volunteers provide companionship and meaningful interaction for socially isolated seniors and those living with age-related disabilities through regular phone contact. Check-in emails are also offered.
Accompaniment to Medical Appointments
We provide volunteers to accompany West End seniors to medical appointments in the Greater Vancouver area.
The goal of the above services is to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of seniors to enable them to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
WESN provides weekly grocery shopping for adults 55 years of age and older living in the West End who are not physically able to do their own shopping. The boundaries of the West End are south of Robson Street and west of Burrard Street.
WESN volunteers take grocery orders over the phone or via email, select the items requested, take the groceries through the cashier, and phone to inform seniors the cost of their groceries including delivery charge if applicable. Payment is required by Visa, Mastercard or cheque on delivery. The delivery person will not take cash.
Please note that a delivery charge may apply. The charge is set by the grocery store itself. See below for individual store charges.
While there is no charge for the shopping service provided by our volunteers, seniors who appreciate this service are encouraged to become members of WESN ($10 per year) or to make a donation. If personal finances permit, please support the many programs and services provided by WESN.
