As a member of the Alliance of Seniors’ Centres of BC, the West End Seniors’ Network stands with the 411 Seniors Centre and South Granville Seniors Centre in calling for the federal government to extend the income tax filing deadline to December 31, 2020 for adults 65 years of age and older.
With tax clinics (including our own) cancelled due to COVID-19, many low-income older adults are unable to file their income taxes. They are worried about the impact this will have on their Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
We are also calling on the federal government to maintain individual GIS for older adults at 2019 levels, but to continue to apply quarterly cost of living increases.
Please see our letter to the federal government and the related press release.
