The Alzheimer Society of BC has a range of resources and educational opportunities available:
Getting to Know Dementia Monday September 15 6:30-8:30 p.m., Vancouver Resource Centre, 300-2425 Quebec St, Vancouver This session is only intended for people experiencing early symptoms of dementia, as well as family members or friends who are currently supporting a person with a recent dementia diagnosis.
This introductory session reviews basic information about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and the impact of receiving a diagnosis. Participants will learn about different types of support available throughout the dementia journey, including an introduction to programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society of BC.
Family Caregiver Series
2 Saturdays: 13 & 20 September 12:30-4:30 pm p.m., Vancouver General Hospital, Jim Pattison Pavilion
An education series for family members who are caring for a person with dementia. The Family Caregiver Series covers the following topics:
- Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
- Effective and creative ways of facilitating communication with a person with dementia
- Problem solving for responsive behaviors
- Personal planning and navigating the health care system
- Self-care for Caregivers
